What does "certified organic" mean?
"Certified organic" means that a non-profit, state or private certification organization, accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), has verified that products labeled as "organic" meet strictly defined organic standards.

Organic or Non-Organic- That is the Question
Organic pet foods for canaries are available yet hard to find. There are few online stores that carry organics for birds and fewer that carry organic food for canaries.

Pet birds are at great risk from pesticides as their little bodies and fast metabolisms do not tolerate them well. Let us not forget the horrors of DDT and other harmful pesticides that have been removed from the market and many other that have not been removed…yet.

It is questionable whether most bird seed mixes available for our pet birds contain pesticides. It can be suggested that if their packaging does not specify that it is Certified Organic that it does contain some measure of pesticides.

For most of us we put our faith in the EPA that any levels of pesticides on our pets’ food are safe. Hopefully they are. For those of us who want to ensure the safety of our pets’ food from dangerous pesticides, feeding organic may be the way to go.
