Welcome to Melody Makers’ Canaries!
I am a true animal lover and have tried my hand at breeding everything from guppies to puppies.
I went to college for animal health technology at Delhi Agricultural and Technical College in beautiful Delhi New York and obtained an A.A.S. degree and license in veterinary technology.
In 2003, after moving in with a wonderful man and a gifted and talented photographer, I felt I wanted to begin a hobby of my own.
I pondered which sort of animal I could at last commit to breeding for the long term. Dogs need too much space, which I don’t have, and are very costly.
I recalled my canary Zeus. He was a gift from my parents when I was in high school. I had picked him myself from a local breeder. He was a wonderful cheerful little pet I would take back and forth to college with me. I used to let him fly around my room when I was home and he always sang with gusto. He lived to the ripe old age of 10.
I recalled how impressed I was with this breeders’ bird room and all the different and beautifully colored birds flying in their flight cages. This was the animal for me!
I put a lot of thought and research into the care and varieties of canaries. I finally decided that the sweet song and relative ease of breeding of the American Singers was the breed I was most interested in. I also liked that there are local American Singer club chapters in my area. They have several shows annually where I could bring my birds to judge their songs.
I contacted a member of chapter 25 in New Jersey through the national website, in December of 2003, purchased my first trio (2 females and a male) and joined the club. The rest is. Well……..Tweet!.........Tweet!.........Tweet!
